Designed in 1904 for a friend and an aviator Louis Cartier wanted to fabricate a watch that was more suitable for flying than a pocket watch. Cartier set out to meet the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont needs creating a square/rectangular shaped watch that connected the case with the strap with precision, without surrendering the function of a watch with a modern square design and not the classic circular case. With concepts and ideas integrated from the Art Deco, the family of Santos watches has grown with models including Santos Dumont, Santos Demoiselle, and the Santos 100 which is the 100 year anniversary model.
