Designed in 1917 Louis Cartier took ideas from the Rahult tank which he saw in use on the Western front during one the first Worlds War battlefields. The Tank was introduced to the world in 1918 and was in full production by 1919. The watch is both square and rectangle and the bracelet styled flawlessly integrated sidebars called “brancards”. Since 1917 several models have branched out from this watch including the Tank Louis in 1922, Tank Americaine in 1989, and the Tank Francaise in 1996. Significant features on this watch include the Bold Roman Numeral Hour markers, blue steel sword shaped hands and a sapphire cabochon surmounted crown.
