Gauss being a unit of magnetic inductions, equal to one tenth thousandth of a tesla. The Milgauss was announced in 1956. This watch was designed to meet the needs of the scientific community. The community needed a watch that could withstand immense magnetic interferences and this timepiece is capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gausses. There is a shield that is used to protect the movement. The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), In the 1950s, CERN was also one of the first scientific institutions to confirm that the Milgauss watch could indeed resist magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gausses.
